Twenty years. Two whole decades of capturing love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. When I first picked up a camera professionally, I never imagined I’d still be here all these years later, but here We are still clicking away, still loving every single second of it.
Being a wedding and event photographer in Perth has been one wild ride, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve been lucky enough to document just about every kind of wedding and event you can imagine; big, small, traditional, unconventional, glamorous, quirky, you name it, I’ve probably shot it. And in that time, I’ve had the absolute privilege of working alongside some of the best suppliers, vendors, and teammates in the industry. So, this one’s for the love of photography, the incredible people I’ve met, and the magic we’ve created together.
Watching the Tech Industry Evolve
When I started out, digital photography was only just making waves, and many of us were still shooting on old cameras and editing softwares. It’s crazy to think how much has changed! Now, we’ve got mirrorless cameras, drone photography, and editing tools that make what we do even more creative. But through all these changes, one thing has remained the same: the importance of storytelling. No matter how advanced the tech gets, the heart of photography is in the people, the emotions, and the fleeting moments we get to preserve.
The Many Faces of Weddings & Events in Perth
One of the best things about being in this industry for so long is the sheer variety of weddings and events I’ve had the pleasure of capturing. I’ve shot elegant ballroom weddings in iconic venues like [Venue A] and rustic countryside celebrations in the stunning Swan Valley. I’ve been knee-deep in sand for breathtaking beach weddings and have even navigated the occasional backyard wedding with a dog as the ring bearer (yes, it was as adorable as it sounds).
Cultural weddings have been another incredible part of the journey. From vibrant Indian celebrations full of colour and tradition to heartfelt Chinese tea ceremonies and classic Italian feasts that go on well into the night. I’ve been immersed in so many beautiful customs and traditions. Every wedding teaches me something new, and that’s part of why I still love this job after all these years.
Events, too, have been a huge part of my career. I’ve photographed everything from corporate galas and charity balls to music festivals and milestone birthday parties. No two gigs are ever the same, and that keeps the job exciting.
The Legends I’ve Worked With
A wedding or event is never a solo effort as it takes an army of talented professionals to pull it all together. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some absolute legends in the industry, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
- Planners & Coordinators – The unsung heroes who keep everything running smoothly! Huge shoutout to [Planner A] and [Planner B] for their meticulous planning and ability to handle anything thrown their way.
- Florists – The artists behind some of the most stunning floral arrangements I’ve ever seen. [Florist X] and [Florist Y], your creativity and attention to detail always blow me away.
- Makeup & Hair Artists – I’ve witnessed the magic these professionals work first-hand, turning already stunning brides and grooms into absolute showstoppers. [MUA A] and [Hair Stylist B], you’re the real MVPs.
- Caterers & Bakers – Let’s be real, a great wedding meal or an unforgettable cake makes everyone happy. [Catering Company X] and [Cake Designer Y], your work never fails to impress (and taste amazing!).
- Videographers – Shoutout to the incredible videographers I’ve teamed up with over the years, like [Videographer A] and [Videographer B]. Photography captures moments, but you guys bring them to life in motion, and it’s always a pleasure working alongside you.
To every DJ, celebrant, stylist, and behind-the-scenes crew member who’s played a role in these events, thank you. You make the wedding industry what it is.
Why I Still Love This Job
People often ask me how I’ve managed to stay in the game for 20 years, and the answer is simple: I love what I do. There’s nothing quite like capturing the first look between a couple, the emotional embrace between a bride and her parents, or the wild dance floor moments when everyone lets loose. The energy, the emotions, the unpredictability, it keeps me coming back for more.
More than anything, I love that my photos become treasured memories. Years down the track, couples look back at their wedding albums, families relive milestones, and businesses use event photos to tell their stories. Knowing I’ve played a small part in preserving these moments is incredibly rewarding.
Looking to the Future
The wedding and event industry has evolved so much over the last two decades, and I’m excited to see where it goes next. Trends come and go, technology advances, and styles change, but at the core of it all, photography will always be about capturing love, connection, and celebration.
To all the couples I’ve worked with, all the clients who’ve trusted me with their memories, and all the amazing vendors I’ve met along the way, thank you. Here’s to the next chapter, the next adventure, and many more years behind the lens!
If you’re looking for a photographer who’s been around the block (literally) and still has a passion for capturing unforgettable moments, you know where to find me. Let’s make some magic together!
